With Cortex XDR, Palo Alto Networks Recognized as a Leader in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Endpoint Protection Platforms (EPP)

In an era when cyberthreats are evolving faster than ever before, cyber defenders around the world are looking for solutions to give them the upper hand. Today, we are pleased to announce that Palo Alto Networks has been named a Leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms (EPP).

Before we dive into the significance of this year’s Magic Quadrant for EPP, I want to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of organizations that have put their faith in Cortex XDR. In the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, I understand the gravity of your decision and the trust you've placed in our solutions, particularly in the critical realm of endpoint security. Your commitment to our products is a testament to the mutual partnership we've cultivated over time.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a culmination of research in a specific market, giving you a wide-angle view of the relative positions of the market’s competitors. The Magic Quadrant employs a graphical treatment and a uniform set of evaluation criteria. This aids in rapidly assessing the execution of a technology providers' stated vision and performance against Gartner market view. We believe, that being positioned as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant is a testament to a product's excellence in addressing current and future market needs.

With this recognition, Palo Alto Networks is now a Leader in all these Gartner Magic Quadrant reports, including endpoint protection platforms, network firewalls, single-vendor SASE, security service edge and SD-WAN.

Why We Believe Cortex XDR Is an Industry-Leading Endpoint Protection Platform

It starts with an uncompromising commitment to delivering the most effective prevention, along with complete visibility, detection and response. We do this for cyberattacks targeting all endpoints, whether they be productivity systems, servers, VMs, or self-managed or hosted containers. Our commitment to delivering the best endpoint security is proven by our consistently excellent results in third-party public testing. Most recently, this was demonstrated by our results as the only endpoint security solution to deliver 100% prevention and detection in the fifth year of the MITRE ATT&CK Enterprise Evaluations. Not to mention the best-combined marks across all endpoint security vendors when comparing the last 3 years combined.

From the MITRE ATT&CK Results Dashboard. Results reflect combined prevention (y-axis) and detection (x-axis) results from 2021 through 2023.

Furthermore, Cortex XDR is the only solution to be identified as a Strategic Leader in all 4 years of AV-Comparatives’ Endpoint Protection and Response evaluation, their most recent and sophisticated methodology. Notably many EDR and XDR vendors have failed to continually deliver leading results in this evaluation and have subsequently chosen to anonymize their results.

Providing industry-leading endpoint security is just the tip of the iceberg with Cortex XDR. While the industry has embraced our XDR vision for holistic threat defense, understanding the intricacies of non-endpoint telemetry, and how to meaningfully stitch it remains elusive. Furthermore, leveraging analytics to deliver detections on stitched data sets is something other XDR vendors have yet to achieve.

Delivering security outcomes with AI-driven detection requires a thorough understanding of all key security telemetry and the ability to quickly adapt to new threats. You must be able to collect and stitch related events as soon as new threat patterns are identified. With that expertise, Palo Alto Networks uniquely provides best-in-class security and corresponding data sensors across network, cloud and endpoint.

To accelerate these outcomes, Cortex XDR is backed by our Unit 42 MDR service. Suggestion: We started by building the best threat detection and response platform in the industry. This platform was used as the foundation for empowering our elite cybersecurity experts to efficiently deliver threat hunting, as well as complete managed detection and response (MDR) services to our customers. Uniquely, our Unit 42 MDR service is not just managed EDR like the rest of the industry. We are delivering managed XDR that spans all data sources you ingest into the solution. This creates the perfect pairing of the power of Cortex with Unit 42 Threat Intelligence and analyst expertise to detect and respond to cyberattacks 24/7/365.

In conclusion, we believe being recognized as a Leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection confirms the position of Palo Alto Networks as an industry leader in the endpoint space with Cortex XDR. As we celebrate this significant recognition, Palo Alto Networks remains committed to continuous innovation. The ever-changing threat landscape requires adaptive solutions, and Cortex XDR will continue to evolve to meet the dynamic cybersecurity needs of organizations globally.
